This module covers some of the major issues relating to family and friends that people experience after being diagnosed with cancer. You may find that cancer will be a beneficial experience socially, as you may meet new people and discover how supportive many friends are. Or you may have some disappointing experiences with your family members, friends or members of your community. Most people affected by cancer will experience a mix of both of these, which may mean that you could experience high and low-points socially as you progress through your treatment.
The module will help you prepare for and deal with the following major issues:
- The impact of cancer on your family
- Social support issues
- Obtaining support from your existing support network
- Barriers to obtaining support
- Developing new sources of support
